Designated hitter Cody Dolan hit a three run home run and Rapids’ relievers combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless baseball in a Rapids’ 9-5 victory over the Staunton Braves last night.
The game was tight for through the first six innings. The Rapids and Braves were tied at 5 until the top of the sixth inning. The Rapids scored an unanswered run in the sixth before blowing the game opening in the seventh.
With two on and two outs in the seventh Dolan hit a home run over the left center field fence to take the lead for good.
Kyle Tate came in to pitch a 1-2-3 eighth for the Rapids, and Kevin McCulloh came in to close the game in the ninth.
Earning the win for the Rapids was relief pitcher Kyler Morgan. Morgan pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings, giving up just one hit.
With the win the Rapids move to an 18-16 record. They remain in fourth place in the South Division.
Tonight the Rapids play North Division squad Strasburg in a 7 pm contest at Cap’n Dick Smith Field in Lexington.
